Like a punch in the face, the crisp and cool air of Barcelona’s Winter morning woke me instantly. Thankfully, I was on my way to warmer weather via a delicious cup of ‘chocolate caliente’

There is something about catching a train in a foreign country that really puts our Aussie networks to shame. From the screens that resemble airline departure/arrival info to the free headsets and movies shown during the journey, I was very impressed. Two episodes of Glee and the Justin Timberlake movie In Time (in Spanish) later I had arrived in Valencia.

What can I say; it was love at first sight! The old fashioned train station and its surroundings and the warmer weather instantly stole my heart. San Sebastián, you have competition! Passing the City of Arts and Sciences coming into the station was also a treat. I cannot wait to explore that part of the city.

Of course, a traveller must always take lessons from every journey and so far my lesson has been thus: “If you think that way is North, it isn’t”. Once again, my wonderful sense of direction betrayed me and I ended up walking, luggage in tow, 15 minutes in the wrong direction! However, despite being completely lost, walking past the many shoe stores, I felt completely at home. Valencia, this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship…
